Model Citizen \ vintage black-metal inspired streetwear
This premium apparel brand focuses on creating luxury garments with unique vintage-inspired designs
that resonate with modern urban culture. I developed a comprehensive brand identity system including apparel and logo designs, packaging concepts,
and an e-commerce platform.
Model Citizen is a luxury apparel brand offering high-end garments with low-brow aesthetics, so creating the graphics was a lot of fun.
I wanted to create a look that felt both aged and timeless, with designs that could have come from any generation.
I referenced old school print ads from motorcycle rallies or merch, and heavy metal album covers to create a look that I felt fit the brand's identity and core concept.
Model Citizen has somewhat of a unique fusion of styles, mixing vintage black metal aesthetics with modern streetwear sensibilities, so it was important for each design to capture that raw energy and authenticity.

As important as it was to keep the designs timeless, I also wanted the clothes to look aged. I decided all of the clothes would be made with heavyweight cotton to keep things feeling vintage and high-quality, and I wanted the darker prints to be acid-washed to help things look faded. I also needed to be sure that the quality of the fabric didn't suffer with the specific washing techniques needed to make these clothes look the part while holding up for years to come. I partnered with carefully selected manufacturers who specialize in vintage apparel production, ensuring that each piece meets the highest standards of craftsmanship and durability while giving the line a lived-in feel.
The garment selection process involved extensive research into fabric weights, textures, and specific tailorings that would best complement the brand's aesthetic while providing exceptional comfort and longevity. From puff pfrinting to custom embroidering, every design choice was made with both style and substance in mind.

The marketing strategy for Model Citizen focused on creating authentic connections with the target audience through carefully curated photoshoots and promotional materials that capture the brand's rebellious spirit.
Each photoshoot was conceptualized to tell a story, featuring models in urban environments that reflect the brand's core values of individuality and non-conformity. The imagery maintains a consistent mood and aesthetic that reinforces the brand identity.
Social media campaigns, lookbooks, and promotional videos were developed to showcase the garments in action, demonstrating how Model Citizen pieces integrate seamlessly into the lifestyle of its discerning clientele.

Digital Presence
Model Citizen's e-commerce store was built on Shopify so the brand could have easier control over exclusive access and limited drops. They kept seasonal lineups behind timed release windows, so you could only buy certain items at certain times. Keeping the site on Shopify allowed automation and minimal oversight for an exclusive clientele.
The website was designed to emulate other popular streetwear brands of the time which focused on a bare minimum type of layout, putting more emphasis on a clean and clear-cut checkout process, so customers looking to grab an item while the release window was open wouldn't experience any confusion.
The Model Citizen project was really fun for me to be able to create imagery and aesthetics capturing the energy of some of my favorite crossroads in life.
